Welcome to Newport 2083, an Alternate Reality Game set in Newport Beach, California. The game is made up of five chapters, each one a short walk from the previous, and is discoverable with your smartphone.  This adventure is appropriate for all ages. 

 

Introduction - The year is 2083.  Constant flooding along the coast has rendered sea level buildings uninhabitable. Inland, everything east of 405 reaches temperatures of 54 degrees C (130 degrees F) eight months out of the year. Disneyland constructed a huge glass bubble over the parks in 2042.  A series of magnitude nine+ earthquakes in 2049 rendered it a total loss, shutting down the parks for good and leaving a lawless kingdom inside the dome.  Tsunamis routinely batter the coast, and drinking water is scarce.  

 

The world is divided into the Uppers and Lowers. The ultra-wealthy live in luxurious compounds along the coast, behind fortified walls designed to insulate them from the reality of the  dystopian world outside. Corporations colonized the Moon in 2035 and Mars in 2038, anyone with a skill applies for work on either, it’s a one way trip, current wait time is five years.

 

Alejandra was born in the slums of Newport Heights, she scavenges a daily living in Costa Ana, the metropolis with five million people, stacked end on end.  A friend of a friend claims he can get her passage to Mars, that a broker can secure her a job as a laborer, which means food, shelter and medical care for life. The ship leaves tonight, if she’s not on it, the broker will find someone else to take the spot.
